CHALK PAINT 101
When you think of staff training that inner self sinks a little! Ergh, sitting in a boring room with pages of information and the dreaded powerpoint presentation that is about 30 years old! We’ll when us gals here at B&G heard ‘Staff Training’ its something a little different.
When selling products its best to know all you can about them, this can easily be done by looking at the materials or colour of a product. When it comes to something like our Chalk Paint, then being about to have actual knowledge of using it is very handy indeed.
On a slightly sleepy Sunday we headed to a pretty hidden Art studio in Norwich! Top floor, with an impressive view of Norwich from its terrace! Exposed beams, plants, and sky lights. The perfect setting for some painting!
Now one thin you all need to know is that Chalk Paint is a rather wonderful paint, because it can paint over anything! No matter what your surface Chalk Paint takes little to no surface prep other than to be wiped over with a cloth! So if the idea of prepping a surface daunts you then there is one thing off your mind!
Aprons on, tools at the ready! We we shown the basics, the main techniques we would be asked about by our customers, and all the details that go with it. Like drying time, tips and tricks for application and the things that do and do not work.
Armed with our paintbrushes we got to work, with our helpful trainer Cecily there to talk us through each step.
The techniques we were shown were:
1. Crackle Glaze is perfect for that shabby chic style, with the paint cracking to reveal the underneath colour. Perfect for chest of drawers, wardrobes and tables
2. Craquelure is great for adding texture and ‘ageing’ to a piece. With a 2 step process for a snakeskin look. Great for adding detail around handles and on the edges of pieces of furniture.
3. Terrapieno is for 3D sculpting, adding a raised element to a coffee table or perhaps a logo to a door. The possibilities are endless with what you can create.
